Indian Railways is set to enhance rail connectivity between Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu with the launch of the Narasapur–Chennai Vande Bharat Express. The semi-high-speed train will begin operations on December 15, offering faster travel, modern amenities, and a significant reduction in journey time for passengers commuting between the two regions.
While the inaugural service from Narasapur to Chennai will commence on December 15, the commercial run from Chennai to Narasapur will start two days later, on December 17. This extension marks an important upgrade to the existing Chennai–Vijayawada Vande Bharat service.
What’s New About the Narasapur–Chennai Vande Bharat?
Until now, the Vande Bharat Express on this corridor operated between Dr MGR Chennai Central and Vijayawada. With the extension to Narasapur, passengers from West Godavari district and nearby coastal towns will get direct, high-speed access to Chennai without changing trains.
According to Southern Railway, the service will run six days a week (except Tuesdays), improving frequency and convenience for business travelers, tourists, students, and daily commuters.
Narasapur–Chennai Vande Bharat Travel Time and Distance
One of the biggest advantages of the new service is the reduced journey duration.
- Total distance: 655 km
- Total travel time: 8 hours 55 minutes
This makes it one of the fastest rail options between Narasapur and Chennai, significantly cutting down on the time taken by conventional express trains.
